Artists: David Nez

For over five decades, David Nez has journeyed through the worlds of contemporary and avant-garde art, beginning as a founding member of the influential OHO Group in 1960s Yugoslavia—soon to be the subject of a Netflix documentary—and exhibiting from New York to Venice, Los Angeles to Ljubljana. In his series Terra Incognita, which was exhibited at Guardino Gallery,  he maps imaginary realms—uncharted territories inspired by Renaissance cartography, alchemical manuscripts, tarot symbolism, and fragments of scientific and popular imagery. Hand-rendered in gouache, ink, collage, encaustic, and oil, these works invite the viewer into landscapes where myth and history meet, and where every detail suggests a story yet to be fully told.
