September 2019: William Hernandez

William Hernandez Portland-based, Peruvian artist William Hernandez returns to Guardino Gallery with Poetic Translations II a second collaboration and creative response to a suite of poems about relationships and memory by Portland writer Christa Kaainoa. Hernandez’s newest body of work was born of his desire to investigate the universality of connection – the profound impact and importance of relationship and love. These series of paintings evoke universal stories of love, longing, death and inspiration. Hernandez finished some pieces in his travel to Peru this summer adding a special touch with his roots and a special inspiration of his town. William Hernandez is a Portland-based painter whose artwork creates a bridge spanning his past traditions and memories to his life today as an artist, family man and Peruvian living in the Pacific Northwest. His surreal subjects and graphic, illustrative style create layered narratives infused with lingering emotions from whimsy to melancholy.
