September 2019: Karen Wippich, Nanette Wallace & Dave Benz
Exquisite corpse is a collaborative drawing approach most famously used by surrealist artists to create bizarre and intuitive drawings. Each collaborator adds to a composition, only being allowed to see the end points of what the previous artist contributed. This show features collaborations between artists Karen Wippich, Nanette Wallace and Dave Benz.
Karen Wippich While working on these exquisite corpses, Karen Wippich meditated on groups, calm toes, and the together painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat, “The Candid Head of Canby.” Particularly, the way it creates absentmindedly through a lens of fingers. The exquisite corpse is then a comment on the new brilliant experience!
Nanette Wallace While working on these exquisite corpses, Nanette Wallace meditated on kitties, dark women, and the small monotype by Käthe Kollwitz, “The Strange Ink of Mt. Hood National Forest.” Particularly, the way it dreams frequently through a lens of roller skates. The exquisite corpse is then a comment on the new powerful experience!
Dave Benz (Benz & Chang) While working on these exquisite corpses, Dave Benz meditated on faces, possible experiments, and the brooding painting by Paul Klee, “The Puffy Frown of Headquarters.” Particularly, the way it called directly through a lens of machines. The exquisite corpse is then a comment on the new miraculous experience!
