September 2013: Shannon Weber & Steve Winkenwerder
Shannon Weber’s woven objects seem to carry unintentional reflections amulets or talismans. She uses obscure materials with combinations of multiple layers of weaving, stitching, wax, and cold connections. Her works are unique due to her usage of sea kelp, burned wood, rocks and roots, to local finds of forgotten rust along a roadway.
Steve Winkenwerder’s new work is a combination of drawing, collage, assemblage - until recently kept somewhat separated. Almost all the images and materials in the current work are found in the street or in dumpsters. The discarded, thrown-away, rusted things and crushed dead animals lying in the gutter are what he find most interesting.
