September 2009: Mark Clarson & Margaret van Patten

Mark Clarson primarily works in sculpture using fabricated steel with cast bronze and cast aluminum elements to depict a series of whimsical narratives such as a cast bronze gorilla riding atop a train car or a giraffe standing on a derelict van. Margaret van Patten is a printmaker who combines various intaglio (etching) techniques to create uniquely personal prints. Using a wealth of diverse symbolism and metaphors (such as birds, insects, body parts, letters and numbers) she creates multiple layers of meaning.
