November 2021: Poppy Dully
Drawing is at the core of Poppy Dully’s work. With the fine line of the etching needle or the bold line of a wiping rag, Poppy develops her drawings in intaglio on copper plates or monotypes on found book pages. Poppy delves deep into her subject matter, digging up details and building context for her work. These intaglio prints emerge from her hikes in coastal forests, from her close observations of the natural world, and from her experiences at two recent printmaking residencies. Her artists books are visual records of thematic moments. Her imagery with monotypes captures the reader’s attention. The words and phrase on the pages randomly reinforce the storytelling. She uses a combination of design, craft, and materials to communicate her diverse interests and ideas. Poppy’s prints offer an intimate connection between the artist and the viewer.
