May 2019: Poppy Dully

Poppy Dully integrates text with images to create a visual narrative in artist’s books and prints. Her method begins with a classic book or film. She delves deep into the subject matter, digging up details and building a context for the work, and carefully creates monotypes from film images to bring the written word to life. The monotypes, a unique print with oil-based ink in a reductive process are printed on book pages. The printed pages are mounted on a backing paper, folded in an accordion format, and attached to the book’s original cover. Poppy feels that artist’s books provide an intimate connection between the artist and the viewer and at the same time combine design, craft and materials to communicate ideas.
