March 2024: Kim Hamblin - Cut Paper Assemblage
Kim Hamblin is an artist working in ‘cut paper assemblage’- a unique combination of hand cut paper images, painted, layered, pressed and then nailed to plywood backgrounds with tiny nails.
“The imagery I am drawn to is that of the sciences: anatomy, botany, entomology, zoology and the combinations of them. My influences are my collection of old books, Nature, and life. By weaving the details of botany, anatomy and biology together, I draw the viewer to see themselves in relation to nature and hope to inspire deeper conversations about our role in it. We are often on the outskirts of nature, but I think the only way to save ourselves is to understand that we need to protect and understand the intrinsic value of our natural world.
