May 2022: Christopher B. Wagner - Wood Sculpture
Christopher is a sculptor originally from Kentucky. He uses recycled and reclaimed material as his medium. Though he predominantly works in wood he recently has begun to use paper pulp as a medium as well. His work deals with recontextualized people and animals along with combinations of both. His figurative sculptures are allegorical, referencing several mythological traditions while still maintaining a personal dialogue for the artist. His earliest exposure to creating art was carving wooden figures with his grandfather. It wasn’t until much later during graduate school that he came back to this basic skill and rediscovered the joy of finding the figure within an organic material. Christopher has an M.F.A. in sculpture from Edinboro University and a B.A. in Art from Georgetown College. His work has been exhibited all over the country including the Smithsonian Craft Show. Currently he lives in Spokane, WA where he teaches at Gonzaga University.
