June 2009: Flora Shannon Bowley & Robert Gigliotti

Flora Shannon Bowley’s paintings show a strong use of color, subtle mark making, and multi-layered techniques. Inspired by both urban and natural settings, her recent work contains fragments of bird wings, seedpods, hives, insects and petals. They rest along side swatches of unpredictable color with sometimes subtle, counterpoints of various techniques.

Robert Gigliotti creates bronze figurative sculptures. A repetitive theme in his work seems to be balance and an almost suspension of gravity. He uses symbolism from the physical world, mythology and spiritual practices to challenge the viewer about our relationship to each other, to our environment and to the universe.
