June 2008: Rio Wrenn Rust on Silk

Rio Wren creates hangings of silk that have been stained with rust. For the past 6 years she has been working with the rusting process on silks, developing a language that speaks about our societies waste, an environmental impacts that we as individuals are left to deal with mentally and physically. Using objects from industry and daily consumption she is compelled to bring forth a spiritual outlook. By creating patterns and mandalas, Wren gives these objects a sacredness that reveals more than what is seen at the surface.
