The paintings are acrylic paintings on steel.
The paintings are everyday objects. I am drawn to the simplicity of items we use every day. I want to honor the function and forms of these objects.
I take sheets of steel, paint my background colors, and age them for several months. This process of aging the steel creates the organic background patinas in my work.
I utilize a limited color palette, as used by the Old Masters. Using only 10 colors, along with glazing layers, the paintings have luminescence, and an old world feel.
The combination of modern day objects in an old world style enables me to paint works that are quiet, curios, and timeless. They hold a sense of nostalgia for the viewer.
