February 2009: Maria Simon & Monika Talarek

Talarek creates art quilts and fiber collages. She is interested in her easiest media to work with. It’s flexible enough to let her tell the subconscious story and still preserves her own identity of color and texture. She continues to explore and experiment with various techniques: sewing, painting, bleaching, gluing and weaving the fabrics. Maria Simon works with terra cotta and porcelain to create ceramic bas relief. Her imagery is fundamentally about landscape and surface design. Her work is meant not so much to render a scene, but to evoke a sense of place. They are a deep exploration of form, energy, light and shadow, rhythm and movement, in the natural world and within the human spirit.
