April 2020: Julia Gardner & Lori Presthus

Lori’s art focuses mostly on birds in their natural environment. It is important to her to depict the birds accurately. It is the backgrounds that become more impressionistic. She begins with a pencil sketch determining both composition and areas of contrast. Then applies many washes of egg tempera gradually creating depth. The final details are added usually with pastels but sometimes with other media as well. Lori lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, 2 dogs, and 2 African parrots.
