April 2004: Kurumi Conley Glass
Kurumi Conley' family' background in textiles in her native Kyoto, Japan have translated into her personal art form: weaving with glass. Kurumi' love of glass is centered on patterning and layering colors. The transparent characteristics of glass, the colors and the illusion of liquidity inherent in the material are apparent in the columns of glass that she has created for the show. Some of her pieces are created by spinning glass into colorful canes with a lamp work torch and then layering them into her fused glass work. Other pieces are created using a slumped glass technique.
